Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew led a delegation to a special high-level luncheon in Taiwan. The special event was hosted by the foreign minister of Republic of China (Taiwan) Dr. Lin Chai-Lung. From Taiwan the special luncheon was attended by important leaders and government officials along with members from the private sector of Taiwan.
Dr. Drew and his delegation consisting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Denzil L Douglas, ambassador Leon Natta-Nelson, Permanent Secretary in the office of the Prime Minister Naeemah Hazelle, Donya Francis, ambassador of St. Kitts and Nevis to Taiwan and Mrs. Diani Prince-Drew.
During the luncheon event the assembled guests, government leaders, private sector partners and officials discussed ways to strengthen the diplomatic bonds between St. Kitts and Nevis and Taiwan. Prime Minister Dr. Drew had the opportunity to address the gathering during the event in his remarks he thanked Taiwan for their support and collaboration standing four decades.
Taiwan and St. Kitts and Nevis have collaborated in areas of education, healthcare , Information Communication Technology (ICT) and agriculture. On November 13 Basseterre and Taipei formalized the sister city agreement adding another positive in the list of achievements that the collaboration between the two nations have registered in the last 42 years.
The city to city collaboration between the two nations will make the movement easier, professional and educational co-operation better and their relationship stronger. St. Kitts and Nevis has also received significant support from Taiwan in the healthcare sector
One of the most recent examples of this collaboration is the donation of occupational therapy equipment and supplies for use at the day treatment centre of the JNF General Hospital. Taiwan has also helped St. Kitts in achieving their mandate of promoting mental health support for the people of the country.
These collaborations are proof that the two nations enjoy deep and long standing relations which have endured the test of time and circumstance. On arriving in Taiwan Prime Minister Drew had asserted that it is a great pleasure to once again return to the Republic of China (Taiwan).
He added that “ each visit here feels both familiar and inspiring”
