Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has lauded the Citizen Security Secretariat for the successful execution of the 90 Day Campaign Against Crime and Violence that resulted in comprehensive measures to address the issue.

During a live event held on Thursday, December 05, 2024, at the Solid Management Corporation Conference room, the Citizen Security Secretariat showed the results of the 90 Day Campaign to the stakeholders.

In the event, the stakeholders provided the wider population with a detailed review of the achievement earned through the campaign and the comprehensive measures and action plans that aim to reduce crime and violence across St Kitts and Nevis.

Remarkably, the government of St Kitts and Nevis revealed the findings and noted that the results demonstrate a significant progress. According to the information, there is a notable 19% reduction in overall reported crimes and a considerable 66% decrease in firearm-related homicides.

The Minister of National Security expressed his pride in the efforts made by the communities, law enforcement and various stakeholders. PM Drew also said that this reduction is not by accident but rather because of the unity and determination of the community.

The Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force provided the numeric statistics during the event and showed that the reported crimes declined from 306 in the second phase of 2024 and by 247 in the third phase which is a 19% reduction.

PM Drew also reiterated his statement that the crime and violence are not just issues of law enforcement but rather public health concerns that affect the entire community, and by addressing these issues, St Kitts and Nevis can create a safe society.

Notably, this campaign was launched on September 6, 2024 and now that it has come to a conclusion, it has improved public safety and has also positioned the Federation as a regional leader in addressing crime from a public heath perspective.
