Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew lauded the exceptional contribution of the unsung heroes of Constituency #8 for their consistent dedication to making the country a sustainable island state during 4th Annual Dinner & Awards on Saturday.
PM Drew hosted a ceremony of 4th Annual Dinner & Awards under the theme, “Nation Building through Sustainable Initiatives” at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel in Frigate Bay on April 27, 2024.
While delivering the address, he underscored the importance of community collaboration in developing the nation sustainably as no individual can do it alone.
The leader of St. Kitts and Nevis highlight the effects of climate change on the country, which is causing a shortage of water resources in Cayon.
However, the government is implementing all possible measure to deal with such conditions as they have initiated the BEAD to dig a well in the Cayon Community in June 2023, which is expected to be completed soon.
At the moment, the team is moving forward with the final pump connection to the water well. This work has been waited for so long and fortunately the people of the community will soon have the water resource to deal with the problem of water scarcity due to climate change.
Further, the leader of the twin-island Federation said that the such contributions must be recognised because without them, the country cannot move ahead. Hence, the nation has organised the annual dinner and awards ceremony to thank the country’s real heroes.
He encouraged the nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis to contribute in the different sectors and figure out in which sector they can contribute and which sector is best suited for them such as tourism, energy, medicine and many more according to their credibility. Every small step will turn to be a huge success for the development of the country.
“You don’t need the government to tell you what to do. You don’t want the government to necessarily lead you. We have set the national agenda but you and your own community can determine what you can do for sustainable development”, added PM Drew.
He laid emphasis on reducing the use of non-renewable sources like plastics as they are extremely harmful to the environment. The people are encouraged to keep the surroundings clean to promote the sustainability and green environment.
One should definitely avoid using water excessively and avoid the wastage of water. Such situations will lead to water outage in the country.
According to PM Dr Drew, St. Kitts and Nevis aims to make the nation as sustainable island state. Noting this, he appreciated the efforts of every single participant for playing a vital role in sustaining the island nation.
Additionally, many other leaders from different ministries paid their presence in this prestigious awards ceremony including Deputy Prime Minister- Dr Geoffrey Hanley, Minister of Foreign Affairs- Dr Denzil Douglas, Minister of Agriculture- Samal Duggins, and Minister of Public Infrastructure- Konris G Maynard among others.
