Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and the Parliamentary Representative for the 8th constituency visited Cayon Primary School for a brief handing-over ceremony on Monday morning.
During the visit, he facilitated the school with several key items needed for its infrastructural enhancement and highlighted some initiatives the Government has launched for their overall advancement. These are aimed at impacting the lives of the nation’s children positively.
These initiatives include the One-to-one laptop proramme and the Financial Education and Savings Programme. The donated resources comprise six fans, one AC unit, a freezer, two water coolers and a laptop computer for use at the school.
While speaking at the morning assembly, he also revealed that the School’s principal, Javan Cannonier, reached out to him following their discussion during his last visit to the school and said that during that visit, he promised to remain to his committed to providing and assist the students with their needs.
Further, PM Drew also encouraged the students and said, “We have delivered a number of things, including your tablet, and then one of the other things we want to do for you is to deliver your account to you. Each of you will get EC$1000.00 in the next few months, including shares.”
With this, he also shared his vision to empower the students financially from a young age, which will be helpful for them in the future.
“We want you to start building an account. Learn how to save and invest from the time you are young. So that is the next thing we will deliver for all of you. By the time you are 18, and you are ready to leave school, you will have shares in a company, and you will have money in your bank account to invest in your future,” PM Drew added.
Following discussions with the school’s principal, Prime Minister Drew mobilized the resources. The items were handed over to Javan Cannonier, Principal of the Cayon Primary School during a special assembly hosted on the Morning morning.
