Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew was delighted to attend the 46th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Head of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in Guyana on Sunday. He highlighted the effective collaboration with delegates from the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation and shared some glimpses of the meeting.
In an extensive Facebook post, earlier on Monday, he noted the dialogues exchange held between the members of the St Kitts and Nevis delegation and officials from the Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation.
While reflecting upon the engagement, PM Drew noted, “The Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation helps to promote cooperation and interaction exclusively on science and technology and sustainable economic development among the Atlantic States in a spirit of inclusivity, trust, mutual understanding, and respect.”
Notably, The Partnership for Atlantic Cooperation were represented by several delegations including, Ambassador Jessye Lapenn, the inaugural Senior Coordinator for Atlantic Cooperation, Laura Lochman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy in the Bureau of Energy Resources, and Barbara A. Feinstein, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Caribbean Affairs and Haiti Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs.
While the St Kitts and Nevis delegation includes Head of Civil Service, Thelma Richard, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naeemah Hazelle, Ambassador to OECS and CARICOM, Larry Vaughan, Press Secretary, Adelcia Connor-Ferlance, and Senior Foreign Service Officer, Bjorn Hazel.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Drew addressed several challenges in Haiti related to the sargassum crisis, and oceanic ecosystems challenges facing Haiti.
He further also outlined the collaborative renewable energy initiative scheduled to take place in Saint Kitts and Nevis and the significant benefits it will afford to the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis and neighbouring islands.
The 46th regular meeting of CARICOM was held at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown on Sunday. The meeting was attended by various leaders, Prime Ministers and heads from several Caribbean communities. Prime Minister Dr Drew was accompanied by his wife, Lady Diani Prince-Drew.
The opening ceremony began from 5 PM onwards. It was attended by delegations such as,

- Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit
- Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Terrance Drew

- Premier of Montserrat Easton Taylor-Farrell
- Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne
- President of Suriname Chandrikapersad Santokhi.
The Drummers from St Kitts and Nevis, led by renowned drum specialist Royd Phipps, presented a wide range of entertainment at the ceremony. The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Dr Irfaan Ali, the President of Guyana.
The meeting also featured several pressing issues critical to the Caribbean region including territorial threats, crime and violence, climate change, climate financing, regional food and nutrition security, free movement of community nationals, regional security, and the situation in Haiti.
