St Kitts and Nevis:- The Federation Cabinet organised a National Assembly in which the ministers of the parliament expressed strong support regarding the newly passed Medical Laboratories Bill, 2024. Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, Minister Dr Denzil Douglas and Minister Konris G M Maynard expressed their support for the bill.
The aim of the legislation is to set up the Medical Laboratories Council which will provide licenses, proper monitoring and inspection of medical laboratory operations.
In support of the bill Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew highlighted that the establishment of the Medical Laboratories Bill will bring accuracy, quality and ethical standards for the medical laboratory services.
Prime Minister Drew stated that the best management and treatment will be provided to the citizens under any medical condition. This is only possible when there is establishment of the labs and testing facility that gives accurate results.
The various medical conditions can be monitored, treated and diagnosed through the availability of the best medical laboratories as they are the most crucial requirements of the healthcare system.
Dr Denzil Douglas expressed his views stating that the bill will bring development in the financial and health sectors of St Kitts and Nevis. Also, this will advance the working of the pharmaceutical industry.
The enforcement of the Medical Laboratories Bill, 2024 will generate employment in the region. The regulatory framework will attract investments. This will enable St Kitts and Nevis to become a self-reliant region that is not dependent upon other countries for the treatment of medical conditions.
The trade minister highlighted that enforcing the Medical Laboratories Bill,2024, will enhance economic growth and development. The Bill will lead St Kitts and Nevis to bring innovation in the medical industry and promote the well-being of its citizens by ensuring that good health facilities are provided to them.
Additionally, Minister Maynard remarked that the enforcement of the Medical Laboratories Bill, 2024 will build public trust and promote regulation during the process given by the council. This will allow citizens to build faith and foster relationships within the nation and the government.
