The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) announced its partnership with the Government of St Kitts and Nevis for the Third Global Sustainable Islands Summit (GSIS) 2025. The Summit will be organized by Island Innovation and will take place from May 27 to May 29, 2025 in the twin island Federation.
The main aim of the summit is to address challenges faced by several island communities in the Caribbean region. Some of these challenges include Water Sustainability & Energy Nexus, Agricultural Resilience & Climate Adaptation, Climate-Health Interactions and Geothermal Energy.
Furthermore, St Kitts and Nevis recently welcomed the Republic of China (Taiwan) as the platinum strategic sponsor for the upcoming “Third Global Sustainable Islands Summit” (GSIS3). This collaboration shows Taiwan’s commitment to sustainable development practices and the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
The Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action & Constituency Empowerment of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Joyelle Clarke, shared on her official Facebook account that during GSIS 2025, seven key pillars that form the basis of the Sustainable Island State Agenda will be discussed.
“GSIS3 offers the perfect opportunity to showcase our SISA in ways that will encourage exchange with leading experts from across various sectors of sustainability and foster expanded discussions about successful strategies for global island resilience,” stated Minister Clarke.
Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS)
The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an international Inter-governmental Organization dedicated to regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean. Some common goals of the nations under OECS are to make trade easier with each other, share resources and solve problems together.
The 7 Eastern Caribbean member states of OECS include Antigua & Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines. The British Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Saint Maartin are associate members of the OECS.
