Officials of the Ministry of Education are eagerly anticipating the reveal of the harmonized OECS Primary School Curriculum: OECS PEARL (Programme for Educational Advancement and Relevant Learning).
Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an intergovernmental organization that promotes economic collaboration across various Caribbean nations.
After collaborating with the OECS Commission on a local mission last week, the officials got a sneak peek at the innovative online hub that is set to transform primary education across the region.

Collaborative Efforts
The representatives from the Ministry of Education also joined forces with OECS officials and local educators to evaluate the readiness of the OECS PEARL platform for full implementation.
Several teachers and curriculum officers participated in various demonstrations, to explore seamless integration into daily classroom instructions.
Moreover, the OECS team met with the Director of the Educational Media Unit, Maria Crawford, and her team, to discuss various strategies for effectively utilizing multimedia resources in the rollout of the OECS Pearl curriculum.
OECS PEARL objectives
The OECS PEARL initiative is aimed at advancing learning outcomes by modernizing school curriculum all across the OECS member states while also allowing for adaptations according to the schools in different regions as per their standards.
The OECS member states include Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
Moreover, the online hub is designed to help educators by providing them with experts-made materials for providing students with better education, encouraging resource sharing, and promoting collaboration among teachers across different territories.
Curriculum reform
The Ministry of Education introduced an advanced primary school curriculum that was initiated in 2020 in grade 2nd and 6th. Over the next three years, the Ministry expanded these pilot programs to all remaining grade levels in 2023, sharing valuable insights with the OECS Commission PEARL Team.
