Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: Konris Maynard, Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy & Utilities, Domestic Transport, Information, Communication & Technology, and Post, presented his one year report card at a press conference held on December 12.
While detailing his achievements in the year gone by, the Minister also shared his vision for the upcoming year.
The press conference which was live streamed on various social media platforms, saw the Minister taking questions from the general public. This is being seen as minister’s effort to restore public confidence in him.
The Minister said that during the year he had worked on expanding the broadband infrastructure to provide easy access to high speed internet to the citizens. Under his watch, the government launched e-government services. In the energy sector, progress was made to complete various renewable projects.
This, he said, will help the nation reduce dependency on fossil fuels while providing cheaper electricity to the people.
He also initiated the process to modernize the national power grid. This is going to improve the reliability of the electricity department.
He said under his watch various road rehabilitation projects were also completed and public utilities were upgraded.
The government also launched a pilot project for electric buses and a special plan to decongest urban areas was also put in place.
The Minister said even during the coming year the project to provide high speed internet to all citizens will continue. In the energy sector the government will be promoting wind and solar projects and there are plans to launch various other infrastructure development projects in 2025.
He said the government will also provide a platform to the citizens where they can give feedback to the government. This will help the government make better policies for the people.
During the press conference the Minister assured that under his leadership all due steps are being taken to maintain transparency and deliver results to the citizens.
Earlier, Minister of Agriculture Samal Duggins, had also held a similar press conference to promote transparency.
