East Coast Housing Development Ltd. is constructing model smart homes, with the National Housing Corporation (NHC) focusing on other housing solutions to meet demand.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Geoffrey Hanley announced a budget of over $8 million for additional housing initiatives beyond East Coast Housing Development Ltd’s 2,400 homes over five years.

Honourable Hanley announced an additional $8.1 million for housing in 2024, stating that he will address the living conditions of those in need and that he is committed to implementing these changes.

“If you look in the estimates for 2024, you will see an additional $8.1 million there allocated separately for housing because there are persons who we really have to help ,When you walk in, and you see the condition that they are living in, we have to change that, and as the minister with responsibility for housing, I give my assurance that we will change that.” said Deputy Prime Minister Hanley.

Deputy Prime Minister Hanley announced the construction of East Street apartments in the new year, stating that officials are diligently executing the project to prevent future mistakes.

Honourable Hanley emphasized the need to ensure proper sewage systems in homes. NHC spends over $2,000 monthly on clearing septic tanks for Wellington Road apartments and needs to avoid this issue.

The deputy prime minister expressed satisfaction with the ongoing housing initiative aimed at enhancing the aesthetics of East Basseterre.
