After the administration of the Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, the parliament members of St Kitts and Nevis have selected Latoya Jones to take up the duties of the new Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly. The appointment of Latoya Jones was met with open arms and excitement by her seniors and peers in St Kitts and Nevis.
Latoya Jones swore into her position as a Senator in St Kitts and Nevis National Assembly on Monday, October 24, 2022, at about 12:30 PM at the High Court in Charlestown, Nevis.
In the words of the newly elected deputy speaker, Latoya Jones, She is a “Nevisian at heart;.”
She describes herself as a dynamic young lady who is determined to empower the people of her nation”.
She credits her lifelong success to her grandmother, Eglantine Duberry. In the words of Latoya Jones, her grandmother “instilled values and morals in her. These morals have shaped the woman she is today.
According to her, her grandmother taught her to have manners, respect, and love for everyone. Further, She taught Latoya to be fearless, driven, selfless, and hard-working.
Latoya Jones believes that giving up during difficulties was never an option for her (grandmother). It, therefore, has yet to become an option for the newly elected deputy speaker either.
Recently, Deputy Speaker Jones served as the Special Advisor to the Premier of Nevis at the Nevis Island Administration.
In the past, She has also worked as the Assistant Regulator at the Nevis Financial Services Department, Senior Tax Officer Inland Revenue Department at Nevis Island Administration and Senior Auditor in the Department of Audit at Nevis Island Administration.
Latoya Jones has served in various capacities in the ruling political party in Nevis. She was the president of the women’s arm (wing) of the Concerned Citizens Movement. While there, she had the opportunity to learn from senior leaders, which prepared her for her present responsibilities
