Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Jahzara Claxton, a professional cricketer and Footballer, has been appointed as the Youth Board Member on the Violence as a Public Health Perspective Committee.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew in an appreciation post, earlier on Saturday extended his delight and honour to appoint her. He further also shared some glimpses of the meeting.
He stated, “It was an honour to appoint Ms Jahzara Claxton, a professional cricketer and footballer, as the Youth Board Member on the Violence as a Public Health Perspective Committee.”
PM Drew, while conveying some kind remarks on Jahzara Claxton, said she is a remarkable athlete, renowned as a member of the Barbados Royals Women and West Indies Women Under-19 cricket teams.
He shared that Jahzara Claxton has also showcased her talents as a forward for Newtown United FC and the Saint Kitts and Nevis women’s national team. She has earned the prestigious title of the most decorated Sports Personality for 2023 in St Kitts and Nevis.
Adding to this, PM Drew highlighted his pride as a government and as a country, to have young people like her who excel and are willing to contribute to the betterment of others, especially the nation’s youth who may sometimes stray from the right path, is truly commendable.
“We encourage Jahzara to leverage her influence to champion the cause of youth empowerment in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis,” he outlined.
At last, he expressed his confidence towards her appointment. “I am confident that Jahzara’s involvement will significantly enhance our efforts toward achieving our goals,” PM Drew quoted.
Notably, the appointment meeting took place on Saturday morning. It was attended by various Ministers, along with the Prime Minister, including, Minister of Sports et al., Samal Duggins, Kenneth Douglas, the Ambassador of Sports, Jahzara’s parents, Ika Francis and Frank Claxton, were also present to witness the proud moment of their daughter.
Claxton’s role as a Youth Board Member is that she will be responsible for advocating and spreading awareness of the committee’s objectives through community outreach.
Kenneth Douglas, the Ambassador of Sports in the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, was also pleased with this significant step. “I am delighted to be present at a short but significant meeting to appoint Young cricket extraordinaire, Jahzara Claxton as a Youth Board Member on the Violence as a Public Health Perspective Committee,” he added.
