Three days after Leader of the Opposition, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L Douglas told the nation that a manufacturing plant on the C A Paul Southwell was closing down in a few months, there is confirmation that a fast-food outlet in Basseterre is also biting the dust.
Dr Douglas told listeners to his weekly radio programme Tuesday night that Electrofab was closing its door.
On Friday, Freedom 106.5 FM reported that it has confirmed that Subway located on the corner of Victoria Road and Cayon Street will also be going out of business.
“After more than 10 years of operations in St Kitts, the franchise will close its doors on October 16. The owner did not not go into detail about the reasons for the closure but thanked customers for their patronage over the years,” Freedom FM reported and posted on its website on Friday.
Dr Douglas said as many as 98 persons would be out of work when the factory closes. He did not state a time.
Electrofab (St Kitts) Limited is the oldest manufacturing plant in St Kitts and Nevis makes resolvers for the robotics industry.
Dr Douglas expressed concern that most of the workers are single young women who are heads of households and It would lead to an increase in unemployment and poverty.
