The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, has recently taken to his social media account to congratulate the University of West Indies for completing seventy-five years of service to the west Indian islands. The University of west indies has been working to provide students access to education.
The University was established in the year 1948. During seventy-five years, the University of West Indies has started several campuses to provide students with quality higher education in various fields. The University of West Indies has trained several notable alums during the course of their services—the alums include the Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas.
Dr Douglas took to his social media to pay tribute to the UWI for reaching this important milestone. The University of West Indies (UWI) is operational in Five Campuses; Jamaica (Mona); Trinidad (St. Augustine); Barbados (Cave Hill); Open Campus in several islands, and Antigua (Five Islands).
Minister Denzil Douglas shared, in the tribute post, that In 2018, he was among 70 Persons who were honoured and received a Special Award for Most Outstanding Alumni and Leadership at the Quadrangle, University of the West Indies, Barbados.
In the same breath, Dr Douglas recollected his educational journey at the University of West Indies. In 1977, the minister of foreign affairs graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from UWI in Barbados, and in 1984 a Medical Degree at the UWI, Mona Campus, Jamaica. Following this, he pursued two years of Internship in Trinidad and Tobago.
After finishing his educational journey, he returned to St Kitts and Nevis as a medical practitioner in 1986. He also shared that at the 44th meeting of the CARICOM heads of State in the Bahamas, the attendants paid tribute to the longevity of UWI on its 75th Anniversary.
