Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew stated that the Government is making significant investments for the renovation work at the Cayon High School to ensure the safety of the students, teachers, and the ancillary staff.
Prime Minister Drew made a visit to the school compound on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 to see the first hand renovation work that is underway constructive progress.
PM visited the school premises for the second time this week, underscoring the administration’s commitment to the health and safety of all those who work, learn and visit the institution.
He emphasised on the heavy investments that is being made on the school. It includes painting the school, putting in new doors, new windows, new furniture, and getting the facility cleaned to get rid of Molds or any kind of contaminant that might affect the school.
The Deputy Prime Minister, also responsible for the Ministry of Education, Dr Geoffrey Hanley, mentioned in his back to school message that to get rid of the issue of the Molds, UV light method is being used as it offers a non-toxic way of eliminating the mould spores without leaving any harmful chemical behind.
Notably, the officials are now waiting for the results of the tests done after the use of the ultraviolet light method.
In addition to this, a task force has been put together to address the issue of mould in St Kitts and Nevis. This initiative has been taken due to the rising temperature and so an increase in growth of mould is expected.
PM Drew also stated that this issue will be solved just like any other problem that they have to deal with. The most important thing is the health of the people, the students, teachers, the environmental workers, the guards and the servers.
Prime Minister Drew also said that safety of these people is their number one priority and it will never be compromised.
