St Kitts and Nevis: Port Zante in St Kitts was bustling with huge cruise activity on Sunday as four cruises arrived simultaneously on the island. Grandeur of the Seas, Mein Schiff 4, Explora 1 and Vision of the Seas brought over 8000 passengers on a single day.
Of these, several visitors disembarked and indulged in organised tours to local tourist hotspots in St Kitts. Others explored the island and enjoyed offerings from local vendors which gave a major boost to the overall economy.
The Miniter of Foreign Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Denzil Douglas, also lauded the Tourism Ministry for the wonderful job being done in the sector and for bringing several international cruise liners to the twin island nation.
Through a Facebook post, Minister Douglas states, “Our beautiful paradise island welcomed 4 cruises,” and added that he is hoping that stakeholders will benefit tremendously from the thriving cruise activity in St Kitts and Nevis.
Even on March, the island welcomed three cruises, which brought thousands of passengers to the island.
Notably, the country will be receiving a total of 54 cruises throughout this month. This shows the continuous growth of the small island its growing presence among international stakeholders.
As the island continues to attract international cruise liners from across the world, the Tourism Ministry anticipates that the local businesses will also thrive with the increase in number of visitor arrivals.
Even the largest cruise ship in the world, Icon of the Seas, made two calls to St Kitts and Nevis, with the cruise choosing the island as its first stop on its maiden Caribbean voyage on January 30.
In addition to this, the island continues to make significant advancements in the tourism sector during the 2023-2024 season.
During a recent radio show last month, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Tivanna Wharton noted that exceptional progress is being achieved. She said that the country is on its path to attain the pre-COVID numbers.
She also praised PM Terrance Drew for opening the country to visitors at the right time soon after assuming office. She said that this enabled the nation to get back on the right track.
Wharton also expressed that this success is a reflection of the amazing work that is being done under the incumbent government.
