Two confirmed cases of coronavirus COVID-19 have been reported in St Martin.
The Prime Minister of the country, Silveria Jacobs activated the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) this morning due to the two confirmed cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 on the land of French Saint Martin.
The Prime Minister’s Office(PMO) in a press release; said that the persons who have the coronavirus are currently being kept in isolation at the Hospital on the French side of the island.
It has been planned that they will be kept at the said Hospital for a period of 14-days.
St Martin is a prominent host to a sizeable amount of Guyanese population, and there is also significant travel between the Saint Maarten island and Guyana.
The release by the Prime Minister’s office further said that the EOC which is headed by the Prime Minister has been activated to act with the preparedness, response and reduction measures that need to be taken for controlling the coronavirus COVID-19.
Also that the EOC will continue to function on a higher level of awareness, the release added that screening processes at ports of entry have been enhanced in cooperation with the airlines which are also following screening protocols of their own.
The Government’s Department of Communication has been spreading the message that there is no reason to panic and that the public needs to stay calm and take preventative hygiene measures at home, on the job, in school has been promoted by the Ministry of Public Health.
In addition to all this, the school boards have been requested to take better hygiene measures at schools and to maintain these measures at a high level.
Front line staff of businesses across the business community such as customer service representatives as well as all other staff members have also been requested to take all the preventative measures on a daily basis.
