Barbados Labour Party received a gigantic avalanche triumph for in the snap elections. The party once again engraves history winning by a landslide, re-electing Mia Amor Mottley as Prime Minister for the next five years. All 30 seats were won by BLP candidates.
PM Mottley has now won two elections in a row. For the first time since the island became a Republic, thousands of Barbadians stepped out of their houses to vote and choose their new Prime Minister, replacing Queen Elizabeth II as the country’s head of state.
The general elections in Barbados were held on Wednesday under strict COVID-19 regulations and safeguards to ensure safer and fair voting. Around 108 candidates from seven different political parties ran in the campaign. About 6 p.m., polling stations closed, and the counting began around 9:30 p.m.
The BLP has been in the lead since the vote-counting began, and the results have remained one-sided.
When Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley proposed snap elections, the island’s citizenry was taken aback. She stated that she did not want Barbados to start the new year divided.
According to previous accounts, the race for the position of Prime Minister of Barbados was definitely between the BLP and the DLP, or Democratic Labour Party.
