Guyana: Police Sergeant of Anna Regina Police Headquarters, Guyana Rory Francis, committed suicide on Friday at the Suddie Public Hospital, hours after his wife, Hannah Christine Boston was found dead, murdered by the police officer. Further, Traffic Police in Region Five is investigating an accident along the Cotton Tree Public Road early on Saturday, September 24, 2022 leaving one man dead.

According to a statement from the police authorities, at about 09:05 AM, Boston visited the Police Station and reported that Francis was trying to kill her daughter at Riverstown, Essequibo Coast.

A while later, Regional Police Commander Superintendent Khemraj Shivbaran and other ranks went to the mentioned area.

On arrival at Riverstown, Essequibo Coast, Sergeant Francis’ car was found in a rice field with the windows up, while Boston’s motionless body was found about 10 feet from the vehicle, dressed in a green and white stripe jacket and green skirt.

She held a black handbag in her left hand, and a plastic bottle was seen next to her right hand. The plastic bottle is suspected of containing poison.

After the authorities looked inside the car, Sergeant Francis was in the driver’s seat, in an inclined position and unconscious. He is suspected of having consumed a poisonous substance, having tried to commit suicide

The investigating police authorities took him out of the vehicle, and the couple was rushed to Suddie Public Hospital, where he later died, and Boston was pronounced dead on the spot.

In the car, a cell phone, black and of the brand Samsung, was found along with one multi-coloured shirt and one grey trousers.

The crime scene is presently sealed off and is being processed by the police authorities.

The man involved in the Cotton Tree Road accident was identified as Salim Yusuf, 30, of lot 40 Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice.

The police authorities informed the sources that the accident occurred at approximately 04:00 AM on Saturday.

Jaswantie Rajkumaj, the dead victim’s sister-in-law disclosed that Yusuf had left home minutes earlier in his car and was on his way to make a pickup.

He was attached to a community taxi service, but it wasn’t long after that Rajkumar said they got a call informing them that Yusuf had been involved in a terrible accident.

Based on the information gathered from the family, a car travelling in the opposite direction clipped the front of the victim’s car along the Cotton Tree turn. Yusuf’s car flipped several times before coming to a complete halt.

The other car’s driver and Yusuf were rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where Yusuf was pronounced dead, and the other driver was admitted for further assistance.
