From November 1, the Government Electrical Regulator application will become available for the public. The app is recently under development and the second phase of the procedure.
The Government Electrical Regulator initiated the app that is being built in accordance with the Electricity Act(2015). This app mainly focuses on improving the user interfaces to aid online licensing of the electrical inspectors, enrollment of technical electrical assistants and registration of electricians. This programme is consistently working on the agenda of the Government to transform Jamaica into a digital society. Stakeholders of the electricity sector participated during a virtual web portal walkthrough of the portal held on Friday, September 17.
Natalie Allen, the project manager, said that the organisation would start the test run of the app, which would be the primary way of managing the business with the Government Electrical Regulator, and it is decided for coming October.
The app would be facilitating the users to request for the service of the electrician or the inspector to do work at their premises and also generating the agreement certificates at the end of the process of inspection at the individual’s location.
The app would make it easy for the user to become accessible to the administrative features of the application. The features would help the user to manage their accounts and generating the reports of the system.
The GER represents an amalgamation of the Government Electrical Inspectorate (GEI) and the Board of Examiners (BOE).
The main aims of the app are to improve the effectiveness of the inspections of the electrical work, it would be increasing the professionalism among every employee and worker of the industry. This step towards digitalising would also enhance the transparency and public approach to every service that will be associated with the electrical work and inspections by the approved professionals.
