The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) on Tuesday morning. Till now, it has been not confirmed that the died was having any pre-existing medical issues. It has come to the news lines that she was supposed to be unvaccinated that became a reason for her death.
The young girl was under treatment after testing positive for COVID-19. While being under the treatment, the doctors at the hospital noticed no improvement, due to which in end she died.
The authorities of the SLBC urged the people in hospitals and the citizens in the country to wear the mask and adhere the social distancing. The citizens should follow the health safety protocols carefully and get fully vaccinated to fight against COVID-19.
The authorities asked the media reporters to keep the identity of the dead person private. The reporters were asked not to crowd outside the hospital.
Till now, Antigua and Barbuda have registered a total of 2,297 COVID-19 confirmed cases on the island. 48 deaths have been reported related to the COVID-19 virus on the island. 60 new cases have been reported on the island as an average.
Dr Albert Duncan, SLBMC Medical Director, said, “We can confirm that sadly, a male patient, age 49, has passed away at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre on September 14 (today) at 12:20am. He had tested positive for COVID-19. Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
