An earthquake of 7.1 magnitudes struck the port city of Acapulco. The quake shook the capital of Mexico that is situated 230 miles far, 1 person was reported dead, the authorities stated.
Mexico’s national seismological service said that the earthquake struck the point was about 7 miles away to the southwest of Acapulco. The photos have been surfacing on the internet those shows the cracked, damaged buildings. The streets are covered with broken glasses and the fallen lamp post on the car in Acapulco.
Many videos show the lightening in the sky of Mexico City and Acapulco. After which, the power lines and phone connection got interrupted. The lightning in the sky was portraying horrifying scenes. The civil protection agency for Guerrero state, home to Acapulco, stated this.
The Federal Electricity Commission said that 1.6 million people of Mexico City, along with Mexico, Guerrero, Morelos and Oaxaca, have to go through power cuts in their cities.
According to the police officials in Mexico City, the electric lines and buildings were waving for several minutes after the earthquake. The citizens were rushing out of their houses to be safe on the clear ground. Many houses were without powers for many hours at night.
During an interview in a local radio station, the governor of Guerrero State said that he got the report that one person had died as the post falls on an individual in the municipality de Coyuca de Benítez, west of Acapulco.
Mr Astudillo said that there had been incidents of landslides and rocks falling along with this, the wall collapsed was reported in Chilpancingo, which is the capital of the state. “We are trying to continue gathering the information,” the governor said.
The U.S. tsunami warning system issued a warning for Mexico, though the civil protection office for Guerrero state said later that there was no risk of a tsunami. Waves, it said, were expected to be below three feet in height.
