St Kitts and Nevis is all set to expand their diplomatic footprint within the Southeast Asia with the opening of a High Commission in Singapore. The decision follows the successful opening of a new High Commission in India in April 2026.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas during the Wednesday, May 6, 2026 InFocus episode. The Minister has shared that the federation has secured an agreement with Singapore. The nation will very shortly” open the new diplomatic facility in the country.
The officials have shared that this is a massive development in diplomacy for the government led by Dr Terrance Drew. The leaders have shared that it is a very important development for the diplomatic presence of St Kitts and Nevis. The Minister of Foreign Affairs called this development historic during the discussion on Wednesday.
The officials have confirmed that St Kitts and Nevis will become the first nation in the Caribbean region to have such a facility in Singapore. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has share that “Singapore is one of the more successful states financially and otherwise, and it is small,”
He highlighted that Singapore and St Kitts and Nevis and have some similarities with respect to their geographical sizes.
Dr Douglas said that both countries have a mutually respectful relationship, which is being enhanced in various areas of cooperation. Singapore has supported St Kitts and Nevis in several areas of cooperation.
The nation has been diplomatically represented in Singapore with an appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary based in Singapore. The duty of the ambassador is to facilitate dialogue and advance areas of cooperation.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs has shared that the mandate to expand diplomatic presence in Asia is a long term plan. Recently, the federation established a High Commission in India. The resident representatives in Singapore and India are both citizens of the twin-island Federation.
