St Kitts and Nevis celebrated Kim Collins day on August 25 in honor of a revered athlete and World Champion. August 25 marks the day when Collins led his nation to the world championship in Paris.

The track and field athlete was the first of the country and  the Caribbean Region  to be crowned the world champion. The athlete won this title  in the year 2003 and has remained undefeated in the records that he set over two decades ago.

The national athelete of St Kitts and Nevis has inspired hundreds of nationals to go into track and field following in his footsteps. The Minister of Sports and Creative Economy et al, Samal Duggins has shared a post on his social media page commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the historic day.

Kim Collins has been immortalized in the country’s history of sports and athleticism due to his contributions to the field. The nation has honored his legacy with the construction and recent rehabilitation of the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium.

The construction of the said stadium was completed in the first week of July with the opening ceremony hosted on July 9. The officials have shared that the new stadium will be helpful in improving athletic training facilities.

The stadium which was named after this legend will help create more talented youngsters across St Kitts and Nevis. The Minister of Sports and Creative Economy et al has shared that Kim Collins also went on to set a national record of 9.93s further in his career.

This record created by Collins is still unbeaten by any other athletes of St Kitts and Nevis. The officials have shared that the athlete has been revered as a legend as he is the only athlete who broke the ten second barrier being over the age of 40 years.

Kim Collins’s contribution to the sports sector of St Kitts and Nevis is immesurable as he brought the name of the smallest island in the western hemisphere into spotlight at the international stage with his achievements.
