The St Christopher and Nevis Police Force has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Official Funeral of Elston “King Ellie Matt” Nero. The funeral is being hosted on Thursday June 11, 2026 and will be attended by all his fans and admirers in addition to family and loved ones.
The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has urged the members of the general public to extend their cooperation. The officials have shared that the flow of traffic in parts of Basseterre will be affected due to the funeral.
According to the officials, Elston “King Ellie Matt” Nero is receiving a state honor for his work in the field of music and creativity. He is also the 10-time St. Kitts National Calypso Monarch and 7-time Road March winner.
The authorities have shared that viewing and the tributes to the legendary artist are expected to start at 12:00 PM at the Newtown Playfield, Basseterre.
The authorities have shared the route for the funeral processions which will start at 10:30 AM on Thursday.
The funeral cortège will depart Jenkins Funeral Home, Lower Market Street and travel via the following route:
- Left on Central Street
- Left on Church Street
- Right on Cayon Street
- Right down Fort Street
- Left on Bank Street
- Straight on George Street
- Left on Sand Down Road
- Right on Pond Road
- Left onto the Newtown Playfield
After the conclusion of the service, a Military Procession will form up on Pond Road and proceed along Cayon Street to Springfield Cemetery, entering via the southern gate on Wigley Avenue.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and temporary road closures along the procession route during this period.
The officials have shared that the members of the community to plan travel accordingly, use alternative routes where possible, and show respect as the procession passes.
