St. Kitts and Nevis, Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport, Port Health Units has received a fully equipped Scherber First Responder Backpack. The kit was donated by the twin islands based Anguilla Trading and Development Company Limited. The handover ceremony for the first responders kit was hosted at the company’s headquarters, Basseterre.
According to airport officials, the initiative by the company reflects their social responsibility towards the development of the twin islands. The Kitts was handed over by Lester Hanley, the Chief Transportation and Officer of TDC group. He shared that the Scherber First Responder Backpack will help in supporting the Port Health Unit’s emergency response capabilities at the airport.
Hanley further explained that the Scherber First Responder Backpack has premium equipment EMT, EMS, trauma and oxygen response supplies including dedicated oxygen storage, four colour-coded removable pouches and more than 250 first-aid items designed for use in emergency situations.
Hanley also mentioned that being one of the companies at the airport, handling the groundwork, they realised the airport needed this advanced Scherber First Responder Backpack to manage the state of affairs in the airport. The company said, “We saw it as a need, and we thought that TDC Group would step up and present this to the port health team”.
On the behalf of the Ministry of Health the donation was accepted by the Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws. She expressed the gratitude to TDC and mentioned that this initiative by the company will strengthen the emergency preparedness and help in managing public health services efficiently at the Federation’s main port of entry.
Dr. Laws explained that the kit helps the island’s health personnel to effectively manage the medical emergencies and the other critical situations at the airport with essential tools and supplies. She also shared that the kit overall contributes in enhancing the safety and well-being of the travellers along with airport staff and the island’s public.
