Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew visited the seniors in the various communities under his constituency. The seniors living in Lodge, Ottley’s, Cayon, and Keys Village have recently completed the 6-week Chronic Disease Self-Management Programme.
The Prime Minister met with the seniors after the completion of this programme and extended his best wishes. He also appreciated the seniors for their hardwork and dedication to their wellbeing and encouraged them to continue working on their health.
Dr Drew handles the responsibility for the Ministry of Health and has been visiting the seniors in several parts of the country. The information about the Prime Minister’s visit was shared by the official government information service, SKNIS.
Prime Minister shared that the officials have shared that the initiative has been helping the people of the country provided participants with the knowledge and strategies to better manage the challenges associated with chronic illnesses.
The officials have shared that the 6 week programme concluded on Tuesday and the Prime Minister of the country was present at the conclusion of the event. The seniors were given sessions in healthy lifestyle and healthy eating.
The seniors were also given the opportunity to learn about how they can manage their chronic illness. They are also informed about the importance of physical activity and exercise for the people of the community.
Through these sessions, the people of the community are becoming stranger and more aware of how to take care of themselves. The officials have shared that the seniors have also bbeen given access to some tools to encourage healthy living. The officials have shared that they can share these tools among their peers.
Through these sessions, the officials have also advocated for policies and programmes that support individuals with chronic diseases, and offer emotional support to others facing similar health challenges.
Prime Minister Drew applauded the group of the seniors for their commitment to their health and wellbeing. He also expressed his personal satisfaction with the outcome of the programme seeing that several seniors are already benefitting from the programme.
Talking to the St Kitts and Nevis Information Service, the Prime Minister said that
“It is my wish to see our seniors continue to live good lives even in their golden years.”
“The knowledge that you have gained, apply it to your life and pass it on to your household.”
