The Prime MInister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew attended the Annual SKNDF Christmas Luncheon held at the CUNA Conference Room. The luncheon was hosted on Tuesday, December 23 with the Minister of National Security making several important announcements.
The Prime Minister said that shared plans to enhance the military organisation in the country. He said that they were engaging the Regional Security System to conduct an assessment of the capacity of the SKNDF.
The Prime Minister has confirmed that the assessment confirms the potential of the personnel in the organization. He added that the assessment has also identified some gaps which need to be addressed.
The Minister of National Security has shared that Modern security challenges demand professionalism, technical competence, and strong leadership at every level. He also added that training of the force is extremely important in addition to the discipline which they have shown.
The Minister has shared that they are developing local strategies for the development of the armed forces. The Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew has shared that they have engaged the President and Prime Minister of Guyana.
The aim of the interaction is to make sure that the SKNDF has enhanced relations with the Guyana Defence Force. The officials have shared that they are set to sign a memorandum of understanding between SKNDF and GDF.
The Memorandum of Understanding will help in improving the opportunities for advanced training, leadership development and operational cooperation. The Prime Minister has shared that the partnership will help the defence force get equipped for regional and international best practices.
The government will also be investing in the infrastructure of the Force, renovating buildings, upgrading the motor pool, and expanding medical capabilities. The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis then participated in the Issuance of a Commissioned Instrument to Second Lieutenant Lakeem Crosse. He also congratulated Private Dion Burke and Shaquille Fredericks. They were both named for being named Soldier of the Year Sailor of the Year respectively.
At the end of the luncheon, Prime Minister Drew carved the turkey and served to the officers and members in responsibility.
