The Government of St Kitts and Nevis has officially recommissioned the New Horizon Rehabilitation Centre (NHRC). The ceremony for the officials recommissioning of the rehabilitation center was hosted in Harris’ Village on May 20, 2026.
The administration believes that this is a very important milestone in the Federation’s continued commitment to the youth of the country rehabilitation, restoration, and second chances.
The Minister of Gender Affairs and Social Services, St Kitts and Nevis, Geoffrey Hanley led the launch of the rehabilitated facility. The ceremony which was attended by several government officials and locals from the community highlighted the growth of the youngsters in the country.
The event celebrated the reopening of the Center at its original location after a significant amount of work was done for rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades.
The administration has confirmed that the upgrades are designed to strengthen the facility’s capacity. The rehabilitation center will serve vulnerable youth of the country between the ages of 12 and 18.

During the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Services, Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting and supporting the nation’s children, emphasizing that “we do not give up on our nation’s children.”
The Deputy Prime Minister also added that the reopening of the facility sends a powerful national message. The rehabilitation and reopening of the initiative is proof that the government is dedicated to protecting the young people, particularly those facing challenges and conflict with the law.
The event was attended by several important officials of the country, including Governor-General, Dame Marcella Liburd, other government officials, stakeholders, staff, and community partners under the theme: “Renewal, Restoration and Recommitment.”
The Dr reopening the facility is part of a broader effort of the government to improve the child justice and rehabilitation system in the federation.
The government has announced that they will continue to educate and rebuild public trust in the institution. The government will also be working towards legislative reforms to help systems aimed towards child protection and support.
