The Deputy Prime Minister, Dr Geoffrey Hanley has announced the updates on construction of homes in St Kitts. The Deputy Prime Minister spoke to the members of the national assembly on Decemeber 17. During this sitting, Dr Hanley said that the Housing is a Fundamental Right for the people of the island.
The houses are a proof of the people’s intact dignity and security., says the Minister of Housing. At the same time, he also highlighted that the members of the community will continue to provide support to the people of the island nation as they moved closer to their goal of owning their own homes.
The Ministry of Housing has shared that in the upcoming year, Ministry of Housing has shared that they will continue on their mandate of providing safe, adequate, and affordable homes for our people.”
The Minister has shared that so far, NHC has completed the construction of 260 Homes in total across the various communities of St Kitts and Nevis. ANother 60 homes are under construction in other communities of the country. The Deputy Prime Minister has thus confirmed that the total number of homes under construction are 320.
The Deputy Prime Minister has shared that no administration has been able to deliver on such a mandate in their first term in government. The Terrance Drew led labour administration has already delivered homes to the people while more are under construction.
The Minister of Housing confirmed that they have made this possible in only 3 years of being in the office. He also added that the home constructions is a part of the government’s mandate to invest in the people of the island nation.
Furthermore, the investment in the people has been spanned across years. In 2023, NHC gave 159 first time home owners opportunity to access concessions in 2024, this number increased to 168 homeowners. In 2025, 158 people have already benefitted from the concessions.
The Deputy Prime Minister shared the details regarding the East Street, Newtown Revitalization Initiative. He said that this project is an example of community transformation where families are living in bigger spaces and better environments.
