Basseterre: Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris, said that Covid 19 protocols established by the government are not exempt to any person, including ministers of the government.
He emphasised that these protocols, when implemented to minimise the spread of COVID-19 virus in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. He also outlined that the government has implemented a number of international best practices to fight the Covid 19 including the implementation of mandatory masks, usage of hand sanitisers, physical and social distancing and also advised the citizens to wash their hands frequently.
While replying to a question during his press briefing, Prime Minister said that there is only one message and one room for all and that is every person in the federation must make best efforts to comply with the COVID-19 protocols implemented by the government.
“We have no different message for the Cabinet as we would have for the children in kindergarten or what we have for those in the secondary schools or what we have for the general community,” Dr Timothy Harris asserted.
He also noted that his Cabinet of ministers do their best to comply with Standard protocols established by the government and he also urged people that if they see any of them not being faithful in observing the protocols, “it would be good that someone gives us a gentle reminder.”
Noting the challenging times, PM said that it is utmost important that those in leadership positions must lead the country by example. He reiterated that the reason behind ministries of the government getting vaccinated first was an example for others that the vaccination is safe and people can come forward to get vaccinated.
It is notable that to ensure the adherence to the protocols, the Cabinet convenes its frequent meetings at the more spacious conference room which is located at the Ministry of finance, as opposed to the Cabinet room at government headquarters.
