A statement on the Civil Defence Commission Facebook page said that continuous and heavy rainfall with thundershowers is anticipated over the upcoming hours over Guyana because of a large area of convection emanating from the broad low-pressure system in the Atlantic, which is situated towards East-Northeast of Guyana at near 7N55W which is almost 250 KM from Georgetown and moving at 10-15kt.
A large area of convection is emanating from the broad low-pressure system which is located towards the East-Northeast of Guyana, and it is expected to move into the forecast area within the coming 4-12 hours.
Throughout Guyana will witness mostly cloudy and overcast skies, Coastal and Inland areas would experience continuous moderate and heavy showers and periods of continuous rain and isolated thundershowers over some Inland areas.
In areas where the thundershowers are expected, gusty winds are likely to be experienced. Periodic high-intensity rainfall is being anticipated in areas of Regions 1 to 6N and 10. Precipitation with less intensity is expected over the other locations. Twenty-four hours accumulated rainfall amounts are expected to be between 30.0 mm and 80.0 mm over Regions 2 to 6N and 10.
Forecast conditions would likely lead to flooding in the areas which are low lying, and possible landslides may happen over the hilly areas.
