St Kitts and Nevis will join the rest of the world in commemorating the World Health Day on April 7. The Ministry of Health and other healthcare stakeholders of the country have announced a two day series of activities.
The theme of the 2025 edition of the World Health Day is being celebrated under the theme, Maternal and New Born Health, Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful futures. Eleven Healthcare centers across the country will be providing healthcare services to new and expectant mothers and newborns.
The theme of the World Health Day focused on two aspects, Maternal and New Born Health. As such, the federation is also organizing the World Health Day Commemoration across two days.
On day 1, Monday, the healthcare stakeholders will be organizing health checkups for new and expectant mothers. 11 healthcare facilities across the federation will offer education on issues like:
- Vaginal Bleeding
- Decreased or Absent Movement of Foetus during pregnancy
- Abdominal Pain
- Warning Signs during pregnancy.
The interaction will start at 8:00 AM till 3:00 PM.
The second Day, April 8, 2025, the focus will shift to educating the people about how to care for a newborn. The following issues will be under discussion for
- Development Milestones in the growth of the children
- Benefits of Vaccination
- Benefits of Exclusive Breastfeeding
The interactions will run from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Educating new and expectant mothers in these areas is crucial for the health of both the mothers and their newborns.
As per some statistical data, approximately 300,000 women lose their lives during pregnancy and childbirth. Additionally, more than 2 Million infants lose their lives in the first month of their life. The health offices share that this number is a result of widespread misinformation and lack of education.
With the right information at their disposal, more mothers can save their own lives and the lives of their children. The healthcare stakeholders in the federation have expressed their sincere hope for a healthy and strong family unit.
