Dr Denzil Douglas attended the funeral of the Member of Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda, Asot Michael on Thursday at the Holy Family Cathedral of the twin-island nation.
Dr Douglas joined several regional leaders, dignitaries, and loved ones in honoring the life and legacy of MP Michael. He paid his tribute to the MP and called him ‘a beacon of light’ who has inspired countless people, leaving a lasting legacy of kindness and compassion.
“It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I mourn the loss of my friend and political comrade, Former Minister Asot Michael,” noted Dr Douglas.
Dr Douglas recalled his friendship with Asot Michael
Sharing the picture of Asot Michael on his official Facebook account, Dr Douglas recalled years of friendship with MP Asot. He added that their friendship was truly enriched by shared travels, countless thought-provoking discussions, and cultivated mutual support.
He described Asot as a dynamic and multifaceted figure who has always been creative, compassionate and caring.
Dr Douglas extended farewell to Asot Michael and noted that his spirit will continue to live in the hearts of the people whose lives has been touched and dreams has been inspired by him.
Asot Michael’s political career
Asot Michael was an Antiguan politician who was a member of the Parliament of Antigua and Barbuda, elected from St Peter Constituency.
He had also previously served as tourism, economic development and energy minister under the leadership of Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne.
Dr Douglas shed light on Asot Michael’s lasting legacy in his political career and said that it was both calling and life for him.
Dr Denzil Douglas also recognized the efforts and the measures undertaken by Michael for the well-being of his constituents. Dr Douglas asserted that the passing of Michael is a huge loss for everyone.
