The Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley was delighted to meet with the Minister of Energy, Konris Maynard and the Members of the Saudi Development Fund to Nevis earlier on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss geothermal energy projects.
As per the information, the meeting was held in the Cabinet Room of the Nevis Island Administration. It was held among the representatives from the Nevis Electricity Company (NEVLEC) and Several representatives from the St. Kitts Electricity Company (SKELEC).
Premier Brantley said that their meeting is a significant move forward towards realizing the geothermal potential of Nevis for the benefit of the country.
Further, he said that the Saudi government has sent a delegation to look at this project underscores their commitment to bilateral relations. He also extended his hope and gratitude towards their effective partnership
“We look forward to this partnership and to realizing our renewable energy ambitions” urged.
Minister Maynard, Among the 31-member delegation that journeyed from St Kitts, was the Minister of Energy and Utilities. He said the meeting was a significant move intended to further discussions on the exploration of geothermal potential on Nevis, stemming from initial engagements with the SFD in 2023.
“They are now here on the ground to do their own analysis of the project to see the pathway of partnership and so we are very excited to be here,” the Minister stated.
Following the meeting, Premier Brantley led the delegation on a site visit to the Hamilton geothermal wells along with the representatives of the SKELEC.
At the site, NEVLEC General Manager Albert Gordon provided the delegations with the information and overview of the Geothermal Energy project. The session was held interactive featuring some significant discussions on proposed operations, such as energy generation capacity, scope of the development, and supplying geothermal energy to St. Kitts and the region.
Following the session, Premier Brantley extended his delight and thanked the Federal Government for its role in helping to advance Nevis’ geothermal energy project. He said he was also optimistic about funds that the government have successfully secured from the Caribbean Development Bank.
