Connecticut and Rhode Island are the two US states which have reported a decline in new coronavirus cases in comparison to the number of cases last week.

A rise in the number of cases was reported in 36 other states, including Florida, which some experts have suggested that could be the next epicentre of the COVID-19.

Florida has reported 9,585 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, which is a single-day record high since the pandemic started.

The number rivals the number of New York’s peak in the daily cases during April.

While Florida Governer Ron DeSantis said that the state’s rise in the number of cases in the last week was the result of a “test dump,”.

Meanwhile, officials across the US have warned of an increase in the cases among younger groups.

However the huge numbers could be just the tip of the iceberg, a survey by the United States Centers for Disease Control has suggested that the total number of COVID-19 infections across the country could actually be six to 24 times greater than the reported numbers.

As cases are on the rise, US travellers are now very “unlikely” to be allowed into the European Union as the bloc is opening up to international travel.

Officials in parts of the United States are now trying to reel in the spread of the virus, and many experts have said it is spiralling out of control. They are making requests to the country’s young population to maintain their distance, using face masks and postponing their reopening plans.

The US has now hit over 2.5 million infections and at least 125,539 deaths due to COVID-19.

The 36 states which are looking at a rise in the number of cases include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Alaska, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Washington State, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
