Alphabet Inc’s Google has said on Monday that it would allow its employees, who do not need to be in the office for doing their work, to work from home until the end of June next year.

Google had said already in May that it would begin reopening more offices globally in June this year, but most of the employees of Google would likely be working from home until the end of the year.

The Wall Street Journal, first reported the news of the extension of Google’s work from home, said that the current Chief Executive Officer of Google, Sundar Pichai had made the decision himself last week after there was a debate among an internal group of top executives which he chairs.

In addition to Google, several other companies have also allowed most of their employees to work from their homes till the end of this year in a bid of safeguarding them against the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic; Twitter Inc has proposed remote work indefinitely for some of its employees.

Consumer watchdog of Australia has launched a court action against Google on Monday and alleged that the technology giant had misled the account holders regarding its use of their personal data.

The commission has alleged that the California-based company has misled millions of Australian users for obtaining their consent and expanding the scope of personal information which is collected by Google about the internet activity of the user for targeted advertising.

However, Google has countered the allegation by saying that its account holders had been asked to consent via easy-to-understand and prominent notifications.
