St Kitts and Nevis chooses a 10-Member team to represent country in FIRST Global Robotics Olympics
A team consisting of ten members will represent St Kitts and Nevis in the FIRST Global Robotics Olympics Challenge in Geneva, Switzerland.
The team will be divided into two groups: travelling and supporting local teams.
Malyka Howell, Patrina Perreira, Lakshya Sharma, Yakira Elliott, Brandon Powell, Michael Shaw, Tau Omowale, and Anthony Li are team members.
The Mentors for this year’s team are Dr Ricardo Neil and Mr Zhavier Shaw.
SKN Robotics said that the team is geared up and ready to compete against the best in the world.
“The team of St Kitts and Nevis recognise that the world needs a chance to survive and thrive, and in that spirit, they have embraced the spirit of research and development among their peers and friends. Getting to know and appreciate diversity, culture, and religion and embracing unity among all humanity,” SKN Robotics said.
“The Association is pleased with these diversified young people ready to represent the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis when the call is made. The FIRST Global Robotics Challenge has made the call, and the team has answered without questions or fear. This is because the team and the country believes in having a voice on the international stage and having a contribution to make, not only to the world but to their home country of St. Kitts and Nevis.”
The FIRST Global Robotics Olympics Challenge will be held from 13 to 16 October 2022.
Every year, since its inception, the FIRST Global Challenge is held in a different city. The first challenge was hosted by the United states in Washington. The next year, Mexico City was selected to host the 2018 Challenge. This is a change from FIRST’s system of championships, where one city hosts for several years at a time, and more closely follows the design of the Olympic Games.
