St Kitts and Nevis National Carnival Committee(SKNNCC) announced judging criteria for the Grand Parade, which is going to be held on January 1, 2024
Judging criteria of Mas band
The Section shall be judged using the following criteria Interpretation:
- Theme
- Presentation
- Design.
The Section gaining the highest aggregate score in the Section of the Year competition on Monday, January 1 2024, will be awarded the Section of the Year Award.
SPIRIT OF CARNIVAL
The following criteria shall be used to determine the award for Spirit of Carnival:
- The vitality of revellers when crossing the judging areas
- The Band with the highest score shall be awarded the Spirit of Carnival Awar.
Stage Presentation
- A maximum of 10 minutes is allowed for any band of less than 300 persons.
- A maximum of 15 minutes is permitted for any band of 300 persons or more.
- An additional five (5) minutes per costume shall be allowed to any band competing in the King or Queen Of The Band segment.
TIEBREAKER POLICY
In the event of a tie for any position (same number of points), the Aggregate System of judging will be used.
Whereby all scores will be added to determine the highest score. If after the Aggregate System has been used
If a tie remains, the judges will decide amongst themselves who will progress to the higher position based on a majority vote basis. No judge is allowed to abstain from the selection process.
PRESENTATION
- The extent to which a portrayal is brought to life at the judging points (20 points)
- Effective stage presentation by the competitor
- Appropriate movement on stage
- Communication with audience
INTERPRETATION OF THEME
- The extent to which a portrayal represents the theme stated (30 points)
- Use and inclusion of specific thematic elements.
- Use of colour to depict the theme.
- Effective combination of visual elements
DESIGN: The overall effect derived from the arrangement of components in the portrayal (30 points)
- Innovation of concept and construction
- The inventiveness of structure, material usage and colour
- Effective arrangement of principal and subsidiary components
CRAFTSMANSHIP:
- The level of skill reflected in the creation and production of the portrayal (20 Points)
- Effective use of traditional and non-traditional materials
- Quality of finish, neatness, artistry
- Portability, fit and ease of movement
Craftsmanship is judged at the beginning of the parade. Each Band must provide a male and female for each Section to be considered.
Size of Bands
The troupe registered to participate in the Street Activities competitions must have a minimum of 100

TOTAL -20 points
AWARD FOR FIRST TROUPE TO LAUNCH
It must be public, either virtually or in person. Reveal showcasing theme and designs of costumes for all sections.
PENALTIES
A total of 10 points will be deducted for troupes without 80% of revellers present at the Start of The Parade at 11:00 am when troupes are ready to move off.
A member of the Street Activities Committee will be allotted the task of counting the number of celebrants in the presence of at least one representative of the troupe.
ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
the results of the winners in all categories will be announced by 1 pm on Tuesday, January 2 2024.
