Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, recently attended the Susanna Lee High School Scholarship induction ceremony. In this ceremony, thirteen students from 8 government high schools of St Kitts and Nevis received the scholarship under St Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board. The Prime Minister and Minister of Social Security delivered brief remarks at the ceremony.
During the Susanna Lee High School Scholarship Induction Ceremony, Prime Minister Drew applauded and congratulated the scholarship recipients for their achievements. The Prime Minister explained that the scholarship results from the students’ hard work, commitment to academia, and reinforcement to continue relentlessly in their academic pursuits and strive for the best.
The Social Security Board of St Kitts and Nevis observed the ceremony under the theme: “Thriving for Excellence.” Dr Terrance Drew expressed that the theme was most fitting as this is what the government expects of the students. He shared that the government introduced the Susanna Lee High School Scholarship almost 40 years ago.
The scholarship has provided financial support to more than 200 students during the tenure. Accordingly, the minister of Social Security shared that the Social Security Board acknowledges the importance of investing in the country’s youth. Further, he expressed that the scholarship programme serves as a stepping stone for the future of these students. The scholarship will allow the students to thrive and accomplish their dreams.
Meanwhile, elaborating upon the importance of the scholarship for the academic career of these students, Dr Terrance Drew confessed that he was also a scholarship student in his high school year. He shared that the Susanna Lee High School Scholarship will help the students pursue their education hassle-free. DR Drew also shared that the scholarship offers brand awareness, educating young scholars on the organisation’s function.
Dr Terrance Drew shared that the scholarship offers the recipients added opportunity over their peers allowing them to transition more easily into employment. To elaborate on his point, he listed the names of past scholarship recipients who are working with the Social Security Board, Shamaar Joseph, Kimmoy Brathwaite, and Oneilia Mulraine. He shared that the scholarship is also responsible for training given several other notable people in the society.
