While addressing leaders in the corporate community, The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr Terrance Drew, stressed the need for closer collaboration and partnership between the private and public sectors. He stated that it was important for the nation if St Kitts and Nevis sought to realize more remarkable economic and social development in the future.
He made these remarks while delivering the featured address at St Kitts and Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s (CIC) Independence Luncheon held on Thursday, September 15, 2022. The Luncheon was hosted at the St Kitts Marriott Resort.
The event on Thursday was hosted under the theme of “Renewal of Public-Private Sector Partnership: Driving Growth, Building Resilience”,
According to the country’s Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, this theme is consistent with the theme chosen for the celebration of our 39th anniversary of Independence, “Refocus, Re-create, Redesign: Independence 39.”
He stated that Both themes represent a timely reminder of our collective need to charter a new course for our beloved country’s economic and social development.
PM Terrance Drew stated that Even as we continue to face the lingering effects of multiple external shocks, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian war’s impact, we must not lose sight of the potential to work together to find solutions to our challenges here in our country.
The Prime Minister also noted that the renewal and strengthening of public-private partnerships are prerequisites for achieving success in building resilience, driving economic development and promoting more inclusive and sustainable growth.
He added, “This administration recognizes and respects that the private sector is a critical partner in our quest to reignite the engine of economic growth.
Therefore, he stated that we must continue to work together to achieve our development objectives amid exceptional uncertainty plaguing global economies.”
He also said that the concept of public-private partnerships is not new to St. Kitts and Nevis but it can be agreed that there is room for renewal in some aspects of the relationship between the public and private sectors functioning in St Kitts and Nevis. Thus, PM Terrance Drew urged that we must renew our commitment to work together to achieve our objectives of growth and building resilience in our economy.”
Other members of the Federal Cabinet, including Dr Denzil Douglas; Marsha Henderson; Samal Duggins; Senator Isalean Phillip, and Cabinet Secretary Dr Marcus Natta along with the Chamber’s Board of Directors and representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps also attended Thursday’s CIC luncheon along with Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew
