The prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, accompanied his cabinet ministers to a press conference where they updated the country’s people regarding the various advancements the government has been working towards. These included the housing initiative and the improvements in the health sector. The other Prime Minister’s cabinet members also provided several significant updates.
The Prime Minister delivered his opening remarks during the Press Conference. He stated that he is honoured to serve the people of St Kitts and Nevis in the capacity of politicians, parliamentary representatives and government ministers. The Prime Minister assured the people of St Kitts and Nevis that they were working for the benefit of the people of ST Kitts and Nevis.
Dr Terrance Drew shared that they have many issues and problems that need to be addressed, including the responsibility to provide shelter for those in need; Stimulate more local food production; Provide an environment to create more jobs for our men and women; Provide safer living conditions for all; Expanding health care services; Providing more reliable delivery of public utilities; Enhancing the delivery of Government services – to be more efficient and more.
Accordingly, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew made several announcements in this regard. He said he would visit Nevis’s sister’s island in the upcoming weeks. He stated that he needed to hold some significant meetings with the premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley. He shared that the people of St Kitts and Nevis live on an island that currently depends on overseas suppliers.
These include the imports for all types of fuel, all of our building materials, most of our supply of food and beverages, all of our medical supplies, all of our motor vehicles and parts, machinery, chemicals, paper products, telephone equipment, clothing and footwear – most of our consumables.
Accordingly, Dr Terrance Drew shared that, it is also important for your Government representatives who have Ministries to engage our outside partners so that our voices are heard, we are seen, and the interests of the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis are represented and considered.
He informed the media about his effort to strengthen regional relationships. He observed that we are part of a Caribbean Community. I have realised many of us know very little about the community Accordingly, after the spring meetings of the World Bank and IMF held in Washington, DC, held in April, Dr Terrance Drew met with Prime Minister Mottley of Barbados. We have agreed to strengthen relations between our two countries, and I expect to be in a position to announce in that regard very shortly.
