St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and cabinet welcomed Tony Blair, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) and the founder of Tony Blair Institute for Global Change to St Kitts and Nevis on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
PM Drew shared the glimpses of his visit and expressed his pleasure of welcoming former PM Tony Blair to their Federation as an esteemed guest. Minister Blair’s visit featured several high-level meetings to discuss transformative initiatives that will focus on the advancement of the country.
Minister of Public Infrastructure, through his official social media, noted that the visit of Tony Blair presented an exciting opportunity for discussing innovative and potential partnership with Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI).
It is to be noted that Tony Blair is the Executive Chairman of the TBI which is a non-profit organisation that empowers governments to shape their ideas into reality by giving them advice on strategy, policy and delivery through the adaption of technology use.
Significantly, Minister Maynard emphasised on the fact that such a partnership will help strengthen the nation’s efforts in attaining the Sustainable Island State Agenda (SISA). In this pivotal discussion, the Minister was joined by Nigel Carty who is the Chief Digital Transformation Officer.
Tony Blair also held significant discussions with Cabinet Secretary Marcus Natta and Head of Civil Service Thelma Richard on civil service transformation which is a critical component to the government’s aim of creating a sustainable future.
Following the warm reception by the members of Federal Cabinet, Tony Blair travelled to Park Hyatt and met with the Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley. The Premier said that centre point of their discussion were the avenues that will enable St Kitts and Nevis achieve greater sustainability.
The former PM Tony Blair also visited Nevis on the invitation extended to him by Premier Brantley. He shared the highlight of welcoming Blair to the island and expressed his delight of doing so.
“I look forward to continued collaboration with the Institute as we work together to drive progress,” said Prime Minister Drew.
