Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew delivered his inaugural National Heroes’ Day Address on September 16, 2022. In his address to the nation, The Prime Minister invited every citizen and resident of St. Kitts and Nevis to appreciate, be grateful for, and emulate the lives of the Federation’s five National Heroes.

The five outstanding Patriots of St Kitts and Nevis who ascended National Heroes’ rank are the Late Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw; the Late Sir C. A. Paul Southwell; Late Sir Joseph N. France; the Late Right Excellent Sir Simeon Daniel and Sir Kennedy A. Simmonds.

“We should appreciate the legacy that our historical heroes have left us with today. We must never stop remembering their contribution. For our youth to take pride in the perseverance of our predecessors and be motivated to imitate their accomplishments, we must teach them about our country’s past,” said Prime Minister Dr Drew.

The Prime Minister then added, “Our National Heroes are men of humble beginnings, shining examples of inspiration for our youth, that no matter your current circumstances, you have the power and capacity to accomplish greatness with the proper focus, creative mindset, and willingness to redesign or transform yourself.

In addition, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew said that the achievements made by these five nations’ builders and the legacy they left behind should prove that everything is possible with hard work.

“To refocus, reinvent, and redesign your life, all you need is the time.
Be not deterred by failures. Instead, consider them a chance to reassess, comprehend, and better your life.” The Prime Minister stated.

Further, he remarked, “Change your outlook and make an effort to perceive things differently. Rebuild your life; choose to change; be persistent and bold, but never be scared to be who you are. Your individuality will make a difference. Each of us has a unique gift; take the time to discover what it is and how to use it,”

Prime Minister Dr Drew said he looks forward with hope and anticipation to the day “when we as a nation recognize and salute our brave women who have brought about transformative change to our twin-island Federation, by esteeming them with the ultimate honour of National Hero.”
