Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The Minister of Agriculture, Samal Duggins extended an invitation for all the crop farmers to attend ‘25 by 25 Crop Production Workshops’ from May 16- May 23, 2024 at Agri Large Conference room. The session offers an opportunity to enhance their farming productivity and knowledge.

The workshops feature various topics of concern such as Soil Fertility, Irrigation Systems, Organizing Farm Records, Production Systems, Production Coasts and Quality Seeds. The farmers of twin-island Federation are encouraged to attend these workshops.

It will further elevate the farming practices in the island nation. Minister Duggins took to his official social media handle (Facebook) to share the details and schedule of the workshops with the farmers of the community.

“Don’t miss out on the 25 by 25 Crop Production Workshops starting tomorrow, Thursday. Mark your calendars for valuable sessions on Organizing Farm Records, Quality Seeds and Production Systems, Soil Fertility & Irrigation Systems and Production Costs. It’s a must-attend event for every dedicated farmer! 6. It’s time to shift our cultural mindsets and view farming as a business. Let’s elevate our framing practices together,” added agriculture minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Following are the new dates and time scheduled for the workshop:

  • May 16, 2024
    Organizing Farm Records, at 5 pm- 6:30 pm
  • May 21, 2024
    Quality Seeds and Production Systems, at 5 pm – 7:30 pm
  • May 23, 2024
    Production Costs, at 5 pm- 6:30 pm

The first workshop is already done on Thursday. The farms were taught about the importance of keeping records of farms, and discussed measures regarding the best record keeping practices.

About 25 by 25 Agenda

The 25 by 25 Agenda was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday, July 27, 2023. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agriculture- Samal Duggins, the Minister of Agriculture in the NIA- Eric Evelyn, farmers, fishermen, and Officials of Agriculture Ministry among others.

The initiative is a part of CARICOM agenda, in which the government of twin-island nation aims to cut the food import bill by twenty-five per cent (25%) on both regional and national level by the year 2025 to attain food security and sustainability.
