St Kitts and Nevis: Medical Chief of Staff (MCS) at the JNF General Hospital, Dr Cameron Wilkinson, says Monday, February 22, 2021 will be remembered as an essential milestone in St Kitts and Nevis’ history in the fight against the COVID-19 virus.
Dr Wilkinson said this during his presentation on the virtual forum series ‘Leadership Matters’ on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
“Despite the clear awareness of the importance and effectiveness of vaccines, there are still people who are reluctant to take them,” he said. “I’m sure our people will do the right thing again and be protected by vaccinations.”
“More than 70 frontline and emergency workers, including 22 of my medical colleagues, joined us and rolled up their sleeves and took the vaccine against COVID-19,” said Dr Wilkinson.
“It was also very reassuring to see the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health, members of the Cabinet and the top officials of the police, army and port authorities set their example,” he added.
“The rollout of vaccines has not only been an attempt to protect us from this deadly virus, but also to assure you that we have confidence in the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine,” Dr Wilkinson said.
“The success of vaccines to eradicate a number of diseases locally and globally, an amount that requires more than 90% of the population to bring about the immunity of herds, speaks to the fact that the majority of us will do the right thing and be vaccinated,” he said.
