Basseterre Desalination Plant, which is expected to solve the water supply problems faced by Basseterre, Frigate Bay, St. Peter’s, and surrounding areas is near completion. The project is expected to be commissioned during the next few weeks and begin supply to all the communities.
The Minister of Public Utilities and Public Works et al, Konris Maynard has confirmed that the construction of the plant is approximately 90% complete. Further, the desalination plant will begin the supply of safe, clean and uninterrupted drinking water to communities.
The Minister made these remarks at the Prime Minister and the Federal Cabinet’s Press Conference, which took place on Tuesday. In a previous update, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew had revealed that the construction had reached the 75% mark.
In less than two weeks, the Minister of Public Utilities has confirmed this welcome development. The Minister has shared that the work has been ongoing at a good pace and will be finished fairly quickly..
After the construction is finished the Basseterre Desalination Plant will help the communities, especially St Peter’s solve their water crisis. The Minister has confirmed that they will be ready to operate the desalination plant.
The plant is expected to supply 2 Million Gallons of water to the communities of Basseterre, Frigate Bay, St. Peter’s, and surrounding areas. The water crisis is a known and notable issue for the people of the country and the government is making efforts to ease the problem with several efforts
The Minister of Public Utilities, Konris Maynard said underground pipelines have already been laid to connect the desalination plant to the main 2-million-gallon storage tank at Morne Peak. The supply of water can start immediately after the project ends.
The water crisis management does not end here. The administration is conducting aquifer mapping surveys in several areas of the country. The officials have shared that they will be drilling in several places to find more sources of water all over the country.
