St Kitts and Nevis: Five Young Footballers from various community schools in St Kitts and Nevis have been shortlisted for scholarships from Phoenix All-Stars Academy in Jamaica. These selected students, Savi-K Morton, Niquan Allen, Dequandre Liburd, Franklyn Mitcham, and Kevonte Phipps were awarded Jamaican Outfits.
The students received the scholarships for their remarkable performances in the recently concluded Jones Group of Companies Department of Sports Under 17 Male league, on Thursday, February 29th, 2024.
The St Kitts Department of Sports congratulated the students and commended them for their exceptional performance which impressed the two onlooking scouts from the Jamaican Academy.
“Let’s congratulate Savi-K Morton-Washington Archibald High School, Niquan Allen – Basseterre High School, Dequandre Liburd, Franklyn Mitcham, and Kevonte Phipps all from Cayon High School were scouted from the recently concluded Jones Group of Companies Department of Sports Under 17 Male league. They impressed the two onlooking scouts from Phoenix All-Stars Academy,” it added.
This is to be noted that the students were awarded the scholarships to the Jamaican Outfit after several negotiations with the parents and players.
Meanwhile, Dr Denzil Douglas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs in St Kitts and Nevis also extended his pride and greeted the students for their remarkable performances.
He also commended them for their performances and wished them all the best in the future. “They impressed the two onlooking scouts from Phoenix All-Stars Academy. After several negotiations with the parents and players, each player was offered scholarships to the Jamaican outfit. A bright future awaits these young stars. Be The Best Ambassadors of SKN, The Future is Bright, stay focused!” he quoted.
The Cayon High School also congratulated their three students, including Dequandre Liburd, Franklyn Mitcham, and Kevonte Phipps and extended a warm message to their shining stars.
In a heartfelt message, the school wished them success and luck. “While we’ll miss having these remarkable student-athletes with us, we’re incredibly proud of their achievements and the opportunities that lie ahead. We wholeheartedly encourage Dequandre, Franklyn, and Kevonte to seize this rare chance to further their athletic skills while continuing their education. This journey will not only shape their futures but also serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes everywhere,” it stated.
