Trinidad and Tobago: United National Congress has pledged to reduce the number of school dropouts in Trinidad and Tobago. During the Campaign Meeting at La Joya Carpark, St Joseph on Tuesday, MP for St. Augustine, Khadijah Ameen said she is disappointed by the way that PNM handled the education sector for the last decade.

Under the PNM’s administration, the nation has recorded as many as 2,000 dropouts among school going children. The nation should be shocked by this number, however, little action was seen from the concerned parties

The UNC highlighted that education is not a priority for the students of Trinidad. they are more concerned about supplementing family income with side hustles due to the family’s vulnerable financial situation

However, this will not be the case with the United National congress Administration, promised Ameen. UNC plans to support the education and development of 300,000 children across Trinidad and Tobago.

The political party promises that the children will be allowed to act like children and prioritize education first and foremost.

During the last decade, the issue of school dropouts has become a critical issue which the PNM administration allowed to fester for a long time.

The political party has been campaigning for the upcoming elections in Trinidad and Tobago by reaching the grassroot. During the St Joseph’s meeting the political party shared that the education sector is an important part of their mandate.

Ameen said that the UNC  will work hard to get students access to the best quality of education. The UNC candidate claimed that they intend to support every child to achieve equity, access and equality.
