A 12-year old from Dennery was swept out to sea in an accident on Monday morning, according to residents of the community, parts of which are underwater due to heavy rainfall.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service said that officers from the Dennery Fire station responded to a report about 11:47 am that the boy was swept to the sea by surging floodwaters.
One Dennery resident said the child was by his home, standing near a drain with fast-flowing water when the incident occurred.
The resident said that the surging water carried the boy around 200 yards away.
A fire service official said that the child suffered abrasions about the body while being swept away and his left eye came out of the orbit.
The official said that the child was rescued, treated and transported to the Dennery polyclinic in a stable condition.
